Korea 2025: Hip and young
posted : Friday, July 18, 2025
Oh and suddenly it’s the second last day of the trip already.
Agenda of the day is Seongsu-dong and the cafes/areas around it. Have been looking forward to this actually, from the large numbers of videos and social media recommendations that I have been watching given its status as the new hype neighborhood in recent years - Myeongdong who? And it’s back to bright sunny weather so off I go after a light breakfast. First stop was at this viral bakery cafe and unfortunately I wasn’t early enough (also it being a Sunday morning). An hour worth of queue, was going to go explore nearby after registering my number but hung around in hopes that they have tables for single diners (ala single riders) because they did come out and ask for customers like this. One thing led to another and I ended up standing outside for the full hour lol. Arriving from Seongsu and alighting from the subway station, didn’t really know what to expect because it looked a bit different from what I have seen Short walk to Standard Bread Bread look surprised Got in after an hour So I don’t have space for too much and I went for the signature crème brûlée French toast. Maybe it’s just me but I thought it’s very overrated, the sauce made it way too soggy for my liking. There’s bread on sale too and I contemplated but decided not to buy in the end because one loaf of bread feels like a lot when I need to save space Past noon by the time I came out from the cafe Moving on and I realised I was at the quieter part of Seongsu earlier…and as I approached my next stop I finally encountered the crowd. So this is where everybody is at I mean, everybody Nudake is another famous bakery but I decided that the prices are daylight robbery Stopped by a cafe instead, random one but it’s some peace and quiet amongst the chaos that is seongsu so I hopped in Chocolate strawberry drink which was a bit flat but I spent a good hour or so in here They got nice views. And I was posting stories lol Next stop of note is Olive Young where I spent like 1.5 hours just hunting various stuff that KH and Stel asked me to help buy, I kept bugging different staff members to help me find stuff because they all looked busy and I didn’t want to trouble one person for too long Back to the main street, I did buy a couple of other random stuff like coffee mix and oh a new pair of sunglasses because the shop said they could do it in a day. Late afternoon and I was contemplating walking over to a dessert spot that I had found, but decided to make a stop at Seoul Forest first on the way there, which isn’t the most convenient to get by public transport surprisingly despite being geographically close to the main Seongsu street. Seoul Forest Flowers and people Yes more spots for cherry blossoms The sunset made this dramatic Sun setting and off I go So no dessert in the end, not that I’m complaining. And off to dinner it is. Not the most conventional Korean cuisine but saw online and it looked really good so went out of the way to try it. Obang Tongdak roasted chicken. Had the whole bird to myself and I must say it was very fragrant, moist, and the garlic mash thingy and mushroom stuffing was so good. Heading back to pack Called it a (final) night! |
