Day 9 and our last day in Switzerland.
Checked out early as usual, even if we had one full day in Zurich still because we are to take an overnight train to Vienna, which was sort of an attempt to save costs by combining accommodation cost and transport cost. But also coz it’s kinda novel for us. More on that later. So started the day slow, wanted to go to a cafe for breakfast and after going back and forth between a couple of choices we settled for this place called Babu’s. Bought a transport pass for the day since we have a chocolate museum visit in the afternoon which we definitely needed to take train, and oh yea I forgot to mention that Zurich is the only city where tourist transport cards are not offered (but we still had to pay the tourist tax at the hotel, booo). So took advantage of the pass to commute on trams along the street (Babu’s is a bit off the main street). Babu’s Kitchen (totally sounded more Malaysian than Swiss) This pancake was meh. Doughy and dense, even the sauces couldn’t save it. This miso butter toast was great though Back in Bahnhofstrasse Nespresso sampling haha and bought some for office Agenda for the afternoon was Lindt Chocolate Museum, and the entrance ticket for the tour is for 2pm. Initially planned to take a river cruise over which is included in the day pass, but services were suspended because there was an event ongoing at the pier oh well. So we killed a bit of time at Bahnhofstrasse before heading over on train to Kilchberg, and that’s when I realised our day pass didn’t quite cover this ride because we are heading out of Zone 1 but we decided to just board anyway hahahaha sorry no integrity here. This ticket is not for this train but oh well Klichberg 15 minute walk to the museum where they are setting up for Christmas The massive choc fountain, I don’t think it’s edible though… Grabbed an audio tour, though we weren’t very attentive in the end History of chocolate, blah blah Does surprise us that despite all the marketing that dark chocolate is the healthier option…it contains just as much sugar. Free samplesss. Played around for a while, kept getting samples coz had to retake videos, then realize my flavour of choice (orange chocolate!) is at the other side so ended up taking more Sampling the various chocolate fountains too Praline samples! Chocolate museum was quite fun in a sense that there are plenty of samplings for free, but I think they do exercise some sort of control because the pralines are not as free flowing hahah. Have seen reels recommending we go in with coats with deep pockets lol but in reality they do watch to make sure you only take one per flavour. Then the final parting gift Souvenir shop Office souvenir done (although I think the things we bought, most of it can be found in local supermarkets too lol) One last look at Klichberg Back to Zurich main station, and we grab a quick supermarket dinner for one last time, made the trek back to the hotel to collect our luggage and proceeded to kill time a bit in the station. One last roasted chicken from Coop lol So the overnight train on Nightjet. Novel experience indeed, I think more 惊吓 than 惊喜 because…didn’t expect the space to be that small lol. And our luggages were huge so there really wasn’t space to manoeuvre at all. There’s actually three types to choose from (one being a shared compartment and I think you are just sleeping on your seat), I think we went for the mid tier one and it’s alr about $200 plus for the cabin. I also had an impression that we can bath on the train but nope, only for the premium cabins. The sleeping car Okayyy I did not expect this Breakfast menu Got a complimentary bottle of wine each too And amenities And data reception was really bad as we traveled across the country, brings back memories of the poor SQ wifi onboard so can only sleep, and I think I managed a few hours of low quality sleep, before waking up at 6 plus to freshen up and breakfast was delivered shortly. My breakfast. Not too bad actually. And with that - the Austrian leg of the trip had started!
