HK 2024: Drizzly

posted : Saturday, July 06, 2024
Final day!

The storm overnight carried over to the day, hence the entire day was drizzly so it’s sort of an indoors day.

Impromptu revisit to 红茶 coz a colleague who was following my stories told me she thought their 菠萝包 was nicer, and I can’t say no to another cup of milk tea so that’s where I ended up even though I had a second breakfast spot planned. Figured BLB won’t take up that much space anyway and I was sort of right.

One last milk tea and blb

Geddit?

Another Cantonese staple which I thought I shouldn’t give a miss was congee - and I had grown to love Cantonese style congee over the past few years. There were tons of them around but I think I went for the safe option due to lack of research - and it’s Mui Kee. The one I had however was vastly cheaper than their SG counterpart - which had been brought in by Les Amis so that explains the price point.

Their version of a hawker centre

It was so smoky and good

Then it’s back to HK island. Lol. Idea was to spend some time at Causeway Bay, buying my egg tarts (both Bakehouse and Hashtag B had outlets in Causeway Bay) and like I said, rainy day so indoor malls was a great idea.
Causeway Bay

Bakehouse, no queue

Hashtag B! I think at the end of the day, this is more value for money

Shopping Line for the sister

Off to lunch, a short bus ride to the Tai Hang area - which also had a number of cafes, but I didn’t have time nor space for one so the only cafe I visited was the Sheung Wan one). And it was once again a very good meal. Years ago I wouldn’t have eaten this but HK style silky scrambled egg rice had also grown on me. Who would’ve thought?

Very good!

Off to meet Eveline at Jordan MTR to pass her her egg tarts - which narrowly survived an earlier mishap. See the egg tarts were in paper bags, with paper handles which I didn’t realise cannot hold up well in rainy weather. So while walking down the steps at Causeway Bay MTR the handle gave way, one of the boxes spilled and one of my egg tarts from Hashtag B met its end and not in a stomach sigh. Good that hers was intact though, we had a short chat at the MTR station before parting ways.

I was running a bit late at this point, somehow. Back to the hotel, picked up my luggage and back to HK island (seriously, shuttling back and forth every day was not my intention but it turned out that way) and HK station to catch the Airport Express. And a hasty end to the trip.
HK station

Saw this on IG and decided to recreate it. Most of the stops I didn’t actually exit, such as those along the way to Tung Chung, but stood close enough to the door to take a pic.

I do want to spend some time talking about this very good lounge at the airport though! Part of the reasons why I wanted to get to airport early was because I felt that the last time round I didn’t have time to explore it (I can’t remember why already but I was also late) and the other part was to visit this Chase Sapphire Lounge which somehow came free with Priority Pass but in terms of food selection and beverages, view etc it’s many tiers above regular contract lounges. And I really enjoyed my stay there, to the extent that I was almost late to the gates again hahaha.

Nice views of tarmac

And from made to order

Had a cocktail at the bar. Maybe should have gone for a second but somehow running late already

Honestly HK airport is quite nice, wondering why it wasn’t ranked higher

No space or time for McD, throughout the trip

So that’s all for the trip! Flight home was slightly delayed due to weather and traffic, but good food onboard again and in light of recent events, got home safe and sound. And as I said in the summary post - despite all that happened I really enjoyed it even if it doesn’t sound like it (and my post titles aren’t helping hahah). And how could I not - it had all the traits of a solo trip that I enjoyed.
Dinner onboard, again was very good

Singapore Sling! I think it’s the first time I ordered a drink on SQ, didn’t feel right to order when I flew SQ home.

Till the next one!
