HK 2024: Sunny

(Actually not really, but it was the only day when the sun showed up for a bit) Checked out in the morning. As with recent trips I find that I don’t mind having different tiers of accommodation during a trip despite the logistics involved in having to pack up, leave luggage behind or move hotels (and most times it’s really at another part of town). But it allows me to splurge a bit on luxury for a small part of the trip, and in some cities it can be more efficient to stay close to where you intend to explore for those couple of days. HK being one of them coz there’s the Kowloon and Island side of things, even if I ended up going against my intentions by shuttling back and forth between both sides everyday (sometimes multiple times a day even heh). Anyway, left my luggage behind and set off to my first stop. While googling route I noticed the bus option and thought it’s not a bad idea to take bus across the sea for once (it was always via underground MTR). Well it’s still underground vehicular tunnel la but at least got a bit of scenery before that. Here’s a mandatory weather photo of the day Sigh. They decided to have a self declared PH off in lieu while working on the actual PH I actually walked past without realizing I’m here coz I was looking for a queue and there’s none Note to self again, 猪仔包 is not 猪扒包. But finally a first cup of milk tea Quintessential HK breakfast And it really wasn’t a good time to go up, weather cleared up in the afternoon so maybe should have gone then but oh well it is what it is I don’t remember the tram being this nice though. Good material for time lapse Madame Tussaud’s, didn’t go this time round coz thought money better spent elsewhere Use your imagination I missed this. It looked better on the way down Back to Central for some of the agenda items I missed out yesterday. Tram spotting No idea why it translates this way Dim sum! I think Michelin starred, maybe their other branches but not this one, but quality is good too! All of my favorite items on one tray and good that it was a stress free environment lol It was raining and closed the day before, finally got my fix And the sun came out! Pretty sure I heard the name of this street in some tvb drama before, quite cool for the tram to pass by the street and it’s lined with market stalls on either side Checked in at Holiday Inn Express Mong Kok, and this makes it two out of two bad experience with this particular brand (the previous one being Bangkok 2019). *Begins rant* Room had a musky smell as if someone had not lived in it for a while. I actually paid more for a high floor room (I don’t remember why I did that) and regretted it now. The wardrobe was worse - to the extent that I didn’t hang anything inside. The mattress was hard AF. Literally like a plank. And the aircon sigh. And the fact that they didn’t provide single usage amenities in the name of environment friendly. I decided not to complain because I wasn’t planning to spend much time in there anyway. *Ends rant* Needless to say I left a bad review but I don’t think they’ll act on it It was quite yum actually. A bit too flaky (dropped bits all over the pavement as I ate lol) and the butter made all the difference Dinner at 紅茶 which is almost everywhere. Seafood cheese baked rice was full of ingredients! And have 凍檸茶 for a change, don’t think I can stomach a third cup of milk tea lol Back to 女人街proper and once again disappointed by the selection. Most of the things haven’t changed since 2011 which is a long time ago. Funny but how long more are they able to sell these (actually maybe very long as long as there are new visitors) 仁之初. One of the places which we found yesterday but didn’t go coz a bit out of the way. Stepped in for 楊枝甘露 and it was good. Then I realized it was right next to the cafe I had breakfast at this morning. Contemplated street food for supper but wasn’t super enticing and I was full. 咖喱魚蛋,燒賣 etc Couldn’t find one of those street scenes with lots of neon signages so this is the best I can do. Called it a day!
