Taipei 2023: Unplanned wanderings

Day 7!
Again a mostly unplanned day. I did entertain the idea of venturing out of Taipei for a day trip again when I was doing trip planning, but in the end I thought one day doesn’t feel like enough (though in hindsight, maybe I could have considered 基隆 or even 桃园?). Anyway wandering slowly anround Taipei wasn’t a bad idea either so it remained unplanned other than the first thing on my agenda in the morning which is….back to Taipei 101. Or more specifically, Simple Kaffa at Taipei 101, which is touted as the highest cafe in the world. The idea sounded appealing at first but I figured that this isn’t something that I would drag my family along with, so I scheduled it on the solo trip portion. And specifically on a weekday coz weekends will be busier and apparently harder to reserve online even if you do so on the dot (slots open like one week before). Then when I inserted 101 into my itinerary a couple of days ago I completely forgot about this so I ended up going up 101 twice. No regrets, I guess. First…breakfast at social space. Croissant and hot soy milk. Hotel exterior Back here Counter at the office lobby area, they will issue you an appointment card for you to go up, switch a couple of elevators, and voila I dig this decor too 南島煙燻冰咖啡 featuring 愛玉、冬瓜茶、桂花釀. Unique taste Also had 洋梨藍乳酪蛋糕. No window seat and that’s totally fine View from outside the cafe, don’t have to pay to go to observatory next time. Iconic too? The traffic engineer in me is gushing over this and lamenting the fact that our TL and SL stubborn uncles refused to make this a thing (chai huat ahem) Harry Potter in Chinese, anybody? 誠品. Never an avid reader to appreciate this place, but here coz it’s iconic? Went for lunch. 春水堂again and this time had a full meal, so stuffed. Memories lol And maybe evening peak monitoring Was carrying perhaps too many things by now so made a trip back to the hotel to deposit the day’s purchases, and maybe join in the social hour but in the end I decided that socializing (and alcohol) isn’t really my thing and I got a bit intimidated by all the people there so I just headed out again lol. Last night market of the trip! I think I was somewhat disappointed because it wasn’t like a traditional night market, more like a collection of shops/restaurants near a popular uni where lots of youngsters gather. So basically just hopped from one recommended stall to another which is quite scattered actually. 師大夜市 This 生煎包 was quite good, and only 13NTD each so can easily pop a few but decided to save space for other things Like this fish soup, very fresh fish The 鹽酥雞here was a must have too so tried, very basil-y and garlicky. Hahah shout out to girl of his dreams We don’t even have this in SG but eh, I guess we have the actual thing. Called it a day! Coz it’s MY turn to start packing sigh. |
