Day 3!

First thing on the agenda was to tapao 阜杭豆漿 for breakfast. We thought parents wouldn’t want to queue, and in any case I don’t think the location is big enough to accommodate many dine in ppl - I recalled it was within a food court. So we decided to let parents chill in room while we dutifully woke up and left hotel room by 745am to go queue.

Or so we thought. While waiting for bus the sister happened to check the location on google and realised they weren’t open on Mondays zzzzz. So it was a good thing we didn’t make the trip for no good reason (it’s not very far but still). But it also meant we had to change plans and we ended up just buying from one of the few breakfast shops in the vicinity of the hotel.

Random breakfast shop downstairs, there are plenty of them along the street. Breakfast staples like 蛋餅吐司etc

Breakfast done, off we go to our first destination of the day. Uber-ed to 南門市場 which had recently reopened after renovation, with a follow up plan for lunch at 金峰鹵肉飯 after that or in the market itself. Had to change drop off point while within the Uber coz apparently the designated pickup point in Uber is still the interim market location, which resulted in fare change. Then when we reached…guess who’s not open on Mondays too? Both 南門市場and 金峰鹵肉飯, yep. You’d think we would learn to check after this morning’s episode but nope, trip planning fail oops.

So had to improvise again. We were in the vicinity of 中正紀念堂 so off we go. The weather is so sunny which makes for really good photos. But it’s also very hot hahaha so after a while Dad decided not to enter the memorial itself and went to hunt for shade and play his phone games (either that or he has something against 蔣介石lol which won’t be entirely surprising), while the rest of us went up the stairs (mum said she didn’t mind, though there’s a lift alternative).

It really is a glorious day for photos, look at the clouds

中正紀念堂

中正

Found dad sitting at one of the many sheltered pavilions and we joined him for a bit doing nothing except being on the phone (ok I was kind of trip planning), then Uber-ed over to 西門町 for shopping and lunch. We do have a few hours to kill before the evening’s plan, so we took our own sweet time.

Surprisingly the first time I took a photo of this, though too many people wanting a clear shot of this

Dropped by a temple

Lunch part 1. 金園排骨, 排骨was decent although after a while, I feel that all fried stuff in Taiwan sort of uses the same style of seasoning

Some 鹵肉飯 since we didn’t get to go to the actual 金峰

Roaming around the Ximending streets

Off to 淡水! Another must visit for me, owing to the fact that both times I was there in my previous trips, the 情人橋 was closed for one reason or another. What I didn’t remember was that it was pretty far from Taipei city itself, almost another county in fact and even by Uber, it took almost an hour drive. Part two of things I forgot is that the 漁人碼頭is some distance away from 淡水老街 and there’s nothing much to do there apart from the scenery. Which we are blessed by good weather which gave us magnificent sunset views. Along with strong winds lol.

The folks

I don’t know why but I always wanted to come up here, but after I did I was like, meh.

Awesome sunset

Another one

Short ride back to 淡水老街, which somehow wasn’t as happening as I remembered it to be - strolled along the old street, bought some goodies (mum has been on food souvenir shopping spree throughout the day) and (the limited variety of) street food for dinner. Then it’s another hour long ride back to the hotel, and called it a day.

It’s much quieter than I remember

(Oh wait the sister and I did venture out to tapao supper from McD and KFC respectively but yeah called it a day).
