The City That Never Sleeps

Japan 2017: Tokyo

posted : Monday, May 01, 2017
The title is as such because I felt that this was our only "real" day in Tokyo proper.

Relatively late day setting off at about 8.30am in the morning, still had time to stop by bakery for breakfast though! Apparently Gontran Cherrier is really famous and it showed.

Exterior 不起眼

Nice interior!

The croissant is yum!

Off to our first stop of the day, Senso-ji Temple! Stories in pictures as usual.

First day travelling around on PT proper

Getting our Suica Cards!

Head in through the Kaminarimon Gate

Red lantern

Row of shops on our way to the temple building

Wefie in front of temple!

Went to 求签. Kind of pointed out what I was wishing for, though sadly I was the only one out of 6 to get a 凶签

If you get a 凶签, you need to leave it behind as a sign that you shouldn't bring something bad home.

Purifying hands after leaving the temple building lol order a bit wrong

Chilling area

Free green tea!

Tokyo Skytree next and it looks pretty walkable so that's what we did. Plan was to go up but we decided against it coz it's pretty cloudy and we reckoned we can't see much anyway. And it's on a pricey side AND we were kind of hungry ahahaha. So decided to settle lunch here too though there were queues everywhere, eventually settled on Saboten for some good old katsu.

Sumida River

Didn't go up.

At Saboten, preparing our own sesame sauce!

Yum

Off to Shibuya and first up, Shibuya crossing. Probably because of my job I am now much more excited about Shibuya crossing than Tokyo Skytree when a few years ago, it would probably be the opposite. Plan was to shop around here for the rest of the day and settle dinner.

Underground at Shibuya station trying to find the correct exit

Hachiko statue outside the station

We crossed like 3 times.

Carrying selfie stick above the crowd lol.

Ventured to a nearby Starbucks to get this view!

Strawberry soft serve, meh.

Strolling around Shibuya

Snacking at this gyoza place

Shibuya gyoza

Dinner was at this place called Uobei Sushi - concept is an updated version of the traditional sushi trains in my opinion. Instead of having trains going around and diners picking up dishes they want, now diners order from a tablet and trains deliver your food items to your table. Not a new concept especially since we had it in Genki Sushi in SG but KH was excited about it and wanted to try. Food wise, I thought it was so so only la.

Uobei Sushi

Everybody have their own screen

Post dinner, spent some time in Uniqlo which I didn't get anything. Again, nothing I can't get back in SG and I don't think it is very much cheaper also so didn't buy anything. Plus it's gearing up for spring season and I felt that clothing items on sale aren't very applicable back in SG hahah. Walked over. To Tokyo Hands next and now this is vastly different from the SG version - had literally everything. Too bad we only had like half an hour before store closes.

Also had crepe coz there's promotion coz it's world crepe day or something.

Perhaps it's Sunday night so many people were out drinking in the area and we saw a few, uh, interesting, things lol. Headed back to Shinjuku, scouted out the inter city bus terminal for possible luggage storage places and called it a day - there's still a need to pack and we had to take turns to pack so decided to head back a bit earlier. Meanwhile, KH and Stel were having trouble figuring out how much they owe each other for the spree in drug store coz receipt is in Japanese, KH's Jap level is still very basic, the products were packed into one bag that was sealed and not allowed to be opened because of tax refund reasons lol. So in the end, still a late night and still didn't manage to finish the movie hahahah.
