The City That Never Sleeps

Korea 2015: Last glimpses of Seoul

posted : Sunday, April 05, 2015
Suddenly we arrived at our last day in Seoul and we realized there are quite a few things which we haven't done yet oops.

Photo shoot in hanbok was something we were all quite keen on and we even tried to squeeze it into our schedule when Val was around, but failed to. There's a free hanbok experience at the Tourist Information Centre at MyeongDong which we were aiming to go!

Started the day slightly earlier than our previous days, the centre opens at 1030am and the advice given is that we should go earlier to book a preferred time slot. Earliest time slot we could get by the time we reached there was in about one hour's time, which wasn't too bad, so after booking our slot we head back out to shop along Myeongdong.

Here's how the hanbok experience works: each group is given 10 minutes. Come slightly earlier before your appointment, so that you can touch up your make up etc (KH actually thought they are providing makeup services but uh, no, this is a free experience after all), choose your costume (depending on the available sizes you may not get the design you want). Then during the 10 minutes you can set up your own camera etc and take your own photos (no camera man on site either coz, it's free one mah).

Overall result wasn't too bad! Aside from the lack of background la. We overran a bit hehe much to the annoyance of the staff.

Limited costume choice for the guys but I kind of like this one.

Us!

Done with the shoot, we headed back out for lunch at Yoogane. I actually liked this a lot (despite them telling me it's essentially kimchi flavored ahahahah).

Asking for food recommendations from the tourist information staff stationed around MyeongDong! Quite poor thing actually to stand outside like this in this weather.

Tapao-ed the famous MyeongDong Gyoja. It's really good!

Yoogane. Staff cooking for us.

Final product!

PM session is devoted to Nami Island! KH's dream came true hehehe. Two ways to get there - either by metro or by shuttle bus. We took metro which requires 3 line changes and a two hour ride to Gapyeong Station, after which a 5 minute taxi ride to the "immigration" counters.

So it was about 3.30 by the time we got to Nami Island and not much day light left, but I supposed we made the most out of it.

Snow laden train tracks

Outside Gapyeong station. All cab drivers know where you want to go, no questions asked.

Idea is, we are leaving Korea for a paradise-ish place hence the immigration counter concept.

Onboard the ferry!

Here we are! The row of trees. KH was disappointed to still see leaves instead of snow on the branches.

Emo pose lol.

Breathtaking.

We're kind of contemplating where to spend our last night at. Voted against clubbing, lol we always had it on our itineraries (like our Taiwan trip) but somehow it was always cancelled in favour of other things. Was researching for places with traditional palace feast but all seemed either expensive or overrated lor. Finally decided to head up to Namsan Mountain where we found a nice buffet place online and KH the CEO kindly sponsored our dinner hehehe.

Journey up the mountain was treacherous though :/ From Myeongdong Station, instructions sound simple but involve a long (considering the weather) walk uphill to get to the cable car station. Oh well.

Hancook Restaurant at Namsan Tower.

We get a main course each and buffet dishes helpings. Restaurant was nice enough to replace one of our main dishes after we accidentally dropped the plate (not sure how) while taking photos o.O

Seafood stew. That shell was ridiculously huge.

Lol very nice view for a toilet.

City of a million s(e)ouls.

Love locks.

Pretty iconic, this one.

Stayed all the way and caught the last cable car back. From there, we decided to just cab back. First got into a cab where the driver tried to jack up the price (I.e without following meter price) and we defiantly got out of the cab lol. Only to regret ahahaha coz the cab we eventually took costs more (even though it was in accordance to meter but we didn't notice it was a premium cab so the starting fare is higher ahaha)

And so that wraps out our trip to Seoul! Packed our bags and heading to YongPyong Ski Resort next!
