Korea 2015: The Beginning

Finally have the heart to start blogging about the trip. On a plane no less haha.
Was thinking I might not do a day-by-day post this time round but to split it as deem fit. Maybe more loaded with more photos coz I didn't manage to go caption my photos on FB this time round oops.
For me the trip started on 31 Dec. Flew to KL after work (it was a half day, and I took two hours time off some more). Idea was, flying was much faster (only an hour as compared to what, 5 hours by bus?) and I don't think I can drag my luggage up and down bus and getting stuck in traffic jam and what not.
Anyway ate my words later. Flight was delayed, bus from KLIA2 to TBS got caught in the city traffic jam, and KTM was moving at snails pace. Should have just taken KLIA Express to KL Sentral la. And on top of that I was kind of nervous throughout the one hour flight coz it was just a couple of days after the AirAsia crash :/ and was kind of paranoid over minor turbulence/strange engine noise etc.
Sidetrack, whoever designed KLIA2....didn't have traveller's interest in mind. Such a wastage of space and travellators were an obvious afterthought. And so few luggage belts! We were sharing luggage belt with a flight that landed 10 minutes before us and by the time we reached the luggage belt, the first luggage of the previous flight hadn't even came out yet.
Anyway, by the time I reached MidValley, it was like 7.30pm? Had I taken a, say, 12pm bus, I probably would have reached before that (ok, assuming jam wasn't too bad). But still, end up didn't save much time.
But brighten up at the sight of the 4 of them! Stel and KH flew in earlier that day and San had been in KL for more than a week lol.
Headed straight to dinner! Wanted Chilis at first, but the wait was horrendous. Switched to Tony Roma's instead. Which wasn't great (should have known, there wasn't a queue), and their ribs were beef ribs which I can't take. Doesn't matter, dinner was all about catching up mah. ChunHong, whom I had not seen in a while, joined us for a halfway through too.
Intention was to grab a quick dinner and head back to Val's to wash up, countdown and sleep coz got early flight to catch the next day. Ended up we left as the restaurant was closing, had time to pop by TBS first to purchase bus tickets to KLIA2, before heading back.
Countdown was a messy affair ahahah. Tried to stream live countdown show, the streaming was laggy and fireworks had already went off outside (we can see KLCC from Val's) and we were still at the -1 minute mark. Oh well.
Had about 3 hours of restless sleep before waking up. Flight was at 8.30am, we bought the 5am bus ticket so planned to leave Val's at about 4.30 despite her place being a mere 5minute drive away from TBS. Idea was she might have to do two trips coz all of us have massive luggages hehe. But somehow we managed to squeeze everything into one trip, by using the front passenger seat as storage space and having 4 of us squeeze at the back. Damaged her car bonnet light while stuffing in luggage too oops.
Made it to the airport! Somehow manage to look fresh even though we were all really in a zombie mode.
Fast forward to flight coz there really wasn't much to say about breakfast in the airport other than the fact that we had a hard time deciding what to eat (and the smoked salmon I had felt like it had gone bad :/)
Oh yea throwing in a rant about not being able to sit together despite buying air tickets together coz it's strictly random assignment of seats for those who didn't pay extra and we were being rather defiant about it.
But...turns out that the flight is only half full (half empty?) and for some reason, they decided to put everybody in the back half of the plane. So once the seatbelt sign came off, KH asked the flight attendants if we could switch to the front section. And we could! Provided we don't take up the hotseats. So we moved forward without hesitation and each of us take up a row of seats lol (coz not too many people bothered to change seats).
And we spent half the time sleeping in all sorts of positions :/ For me I also portioned out the money each person is getting (coz I exchanged SGD on behalf of everybody, higher rates ma).
Selfie stick fun on board.
(Only had photos from my phone coz this time round we didnt manage to get together and swap photos) My dinner! Coz still wasnt a fan of things like bibimbap and there are minimal options in the food court heh.
Popped by convenience store for banana milk! (Not pictured hahah)
Reached Jeju without incidents. San had arranged for a cab driver to drive us around various attractions in Jeju the next day, and had also managed to bargain for him to pick us up in the airport the night before and send us to our hotel heh. On my end I was just excited to see traces of snow on parked cars in the car park hahahah.
Checked in Jeju December Hotel. A bit squeezy coz there were five of us, but not too bad la. Shall do a review of the various accoms in another post.
Initial plan was to just nua after a long day of flights and what not but I guess we didn't realize that we would settle in by 9 and so there's still some time (and energy) left. Decided to head out for supper, wanted to have black pork so we asked the receptionist for recommendations. But decided against it in the end coz needed to cab to that place..so ended up we just walked down the street hunting for food. And it started snowing! Flurries with tiny bits of snowflakes only la but enough to make me go crazy hahah.
Not fancy, but good enough.
Couldnt resist picking up some and throwing at the others, to their annoyance.
Settled in a bbq restaurant at the end. Had soju too, first time trying for most of us and we didn't really like it coz it was way too alcohol-y, almost tasted like some disinfectant urgh and think only KH can take it. Food was great though.
Before: Ooh alcohol to warm our bodies
After: urgh it tastes like some cleaning agent
Food's here!
Meattttt.
The expert cutting up cold noodles (actually I dont know why we still had cold noodles in this kind of weather)
End of the day!
Also tapao-ed some street food like fish cakes and tteokbokki. I think poor Val was sneezing so much at this point that her nose could fall off anytime :/ Head back to recharge!
