Australia 2013: Shop
posted : Monday, March 31, 2014
Continuing with the relaxed mode, we slept in and only got up after 10, my first time in Aus. Did laundry, thank god for dryers, I forgot how much I missed them (clothes dried in the sun are still the best but weather is never predictable anywhere). Was past 11 by the time we head out..needed to get some Australian Open merchandise for my sister so we head to Melbourne Park first.
Guess even if I am not buying merchandise for my sister, Melbourne Park is still a must visit for me considering I follow tennis quite religiously. Though I suppose it would be a lot better to visit it during the tournament itself so that shall be my next goal haha. Dream is to visit all 4 of them, in fact. Maybe I can give myself 10 years to accomplish that haha. Back to the visit, Melbourne Park was undergoing some renovation works when we were there, and the 2014 merchandise weren't on sale until a month later so I could only get the 2013 ones. Missed the timings for a stadium tour too, but I suppose it would be pretty strange as we would have been the only people on the tour.
Another view of Flinders
Tens of thousands of people will enter these gates in January
Preparing itself for January. Dream is to watch a live match here one day.
Walk of Champions. Sneaked in here basically but cant go far.
MCG
Walked over to the neighboring Melbourne Cricket Ground after that...we can't enter of course, so kind of just stopped by briefly before moving on. Caught a bus to Richmond's Mt View Hotel and Bar for their Chicken Parma which the two of them have been raving about, rather justifiably too!
Nom.
Does every Australian city has a place called "South Bank" or what.
Headed over to the DFO at South Wharf for some shopping in the afternoon. Initially was quite skeptical about shopping coz I dun suppose I would find items that are cheap enough. But surprisingly I did manage to get something in the end. Was about 5 when we were done, and our dinner reservation was at 7. Decided to head to the restaurant anyway to see if we can bring forward our reservation, and turns out we could. Kri Kri Greek restaurant, they were trying it for the first time too. Booked via the same platform as Samanee the day before and got 50% off too! Our favorite items turned out to be the dips for the bread lol. That's not to say the other items are very shabby lah. But overall another good meal. Hung around and had a good time just chatting in the restaurant. Then head back to their place to pack up.
The place. First time trying out Greek food.
Favourite dips - tzatziki and red caviar. There's also some brinjal dip too.
Fried cheese which was surprisingly enjoyable.
Our mains.
If this post appears to be short, it's coz we really didn't go crazy and fill the day with many activities...actually really thankful for that. As I said earlier, it gives me some time to recharge before heading to my next destination. Glad that I had Melbourne in between Gold Coast and Sydney, which was by chance really.
Flight was at around 11am the next morning so we got up pretty early...caught a train to Southern Cross station and then SkyBus from there to the airport. XL and Alice saw me off at Southern Cross. Don't know when I will see either of them next, but these couple of days with them had been pretty memorable. Especially XL whom I hadn't seen in a while (Alice appeared in SG periodically)..who was pretty updated on happenings on our end (including bits and peices of the Jurong East fiasco) with a somewhat surprising (to me at least) source. Heh.
Me and my hosts! Thanks guys :)
Back to the
And that concludes my journey in Melbourne...next, Sydney!
