The City That Never Sleeps

Update.

It is just 8am on a Saturday morning and I am blogging. Wow.

Inter-Block Basketball game was scheduled this morning at 8am therefore I had to wake up early as the tech committee had to set up the sound equipments in the basketball court. Unfortunately it was raining. So I woke up for nothing. Well, not really. At least I manage to eat breakfast for the 4th time this week. Haha.

Involved myself in two hall events this week. Firstly, in hall production where I joined the techinical committee where ultimately we are also in-charge of all the other hall events so that we could practise. Tech com is in-charge of the lighting and sound system for the concert by the way. I get to manage the high-tech equipment in UCC (Uni Cultural Centre)!! Whee! So basically it's rehashing of my AVA days, without the video part that is. Others are in more taxing groups such as cast, sets and so on.

Also, what is happening on 31st August? A public holiday! For Malaysia that is. Which is why we had Malaysian Night on 30th August. Again, I happened to be in-charge of tech - since I realise nobody else wants to do it. I think I am also helping with cooking (HAHAHA) since they are going to prepare some dishes as well. And I think I am playing a small role in the skit which they are going to put up. Whoops.

Outside these events Hall life is starting to pick up pace and we had a Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC) elections on Wednesday. Or rather, JCRC positions confirmation day should be more appropriate since most of the candidates were unchallenged anyway. Before that there was a JCRC forum where the candidates were shot on questions to improve the hall and their visions and plans and blah blah. Next week there are more forums coming up (unfortunately) and one of the more important ones should be the Points forums which I am guessing will be about collecting and using Hall activities points.

Outside hall activities lectures are gathering pace as well. Sigh. And tutorials and labs are starting next week. Double sigh. And I havent really done much work yet. Triple sigh.

Round up on the modules I am taking this sem (not that I had a choice though): Materials Science and Eng was interesting (both the subject and the Chinese lecturer with his accent), Programming is interesting but need to remember a lot of things, Electrical Engineering was boring and the lecturer is irritating as he was never aware that his microphone had problem so he sounded bad. Physics lecturer was interesting but the subject was...let's just say I am never a fan of Physics. Maths lecturer always sound muffled and again, what can I say about Maths? Just do only lor.

Just to share an interesting episode that happened yesterday: I came back from lecture at around 6pm and happened to run into the Resident Fellow (RF) (some kind of guardian for our block who works in NUS) (He was a doctor by the way) outside my room and he started talking to me in Chinese. Naturally I responded in Chinese. This went on until he asked me:

"你是SM几的?"

PRC scholars are divided into 2 categories, SM2 and SM3. Nevermind about the difference, too lazy to explain. Point is, he thought I was an UTARA!!

"Erm, I am a Malaysian."

"Oh?! You are not from China?" (Note the sudden change of language)

"No..(pause and think). Do I look like one?"

"Definitely..." (HEARTBREAK)

And so the conversation continued in English for a few more lines.

=S
