The City That Never Sleeps

Reunion at KL

posted : Sunday, December 25, 2016
So this trip to KL was actually locked in right at the beginning of the year.

I always thought I would definitely want to be there if these two ever got hitched. Provided that they invite me la. I may not know the full story of how they got together (I still don't) during that dramatic few days (I still remember the tension in the air and people refusing to talk about it) but I was always very happy for these two. So the invitation came as early as January and gladly set aside a couple of days to attend it.

(So I kind of didn't get it when people pull out left right centre citing various reasons for not being able to attend. Probably there are other priorities now).

Anyway, partnered up with Chris and crashed the MHEH nest for a couple of nights who as usual, went out of their way to be awesome hosts. Arrived on Fri nite after work, wedding was on Saturday and we were due to fly back to SG on Sunday. Obviously didnt do anything on Friday night given the late timing and the fact that MH was almost completely knackered from a stint on offshore rig.

Saturday was just..non-stop food adventure prior to the dinner. Dim sum breakfast is a staple (IMO at least) when in Malaysia, went over to pick up ML (who was left traveling alone, and without anybody to pick her up) from Subang Airport, dropped by her AirBnB place arranged by XL, then meet up with Mic + BF for more food. The irony - only one out of the legion of KL ppl in the group made it to the wedding.

Nasi lemak from Village Park. No fan of Nasi Lemak in general because was never a fan of sambal but the fried chicken was so good!

Side of Assam Fish Head. Different style but quite good too.

The group at lunch.

Off for dessert.

Pretty good lava cake. Very dense.

Went back to rest and get ready for dinner, at The Gardens. Grab-ed because it's hard to find parking, and because it's free (RM5 off any ride to selected malls that day and because MH's place is really near to Midvalley, it's essentially free).

Wedding dinner itself...was a blast from the past. Literally haven't seen Ting Feng in more than 10 years since he left SA few months in. Junyi - has been about 5-6 years since I last saw him. The rest on the table - at least I do see somewhat regularly. Everybody is living a different life now but personality wise I dont think anybody really changed much! Disturbing Junyi and watching him get uncomfortable about love life details hahaha..one of the highlights of the night. And of course the wedded couple. Actually come to think of it..it's more of a formality la for these two given how long they have lived together. Though didnt get to talk to them much..typical busy groom and bride as they have many other guests to entertain.

Would have loved to see more people and caught up more - I've said it before and I will say it again - those two years were really the two years in SG I truly missed. It influenced some of my most important decisions and helped shape the life I am living now...so I typically jumped at any chance to relive some of those memories. Our lives have been drifting further and further so we really don't get many more chances like this. But made good of whatever chances we can get lor. Then again..probably not everyone thinks this way...like I said, different priorities.

We had one table + 2 at another table.

March in.

The starter 冷盘.

Reunion!

A more informal one.

Sunday was a slower-paced day. Roti canai breakfast, then went over to check out Mic's hotel, then the whole gang drove over to Klang for BKT. And the Pokemon hunters (led by Mic's mum o.O) decided that since Port Klang is nearby (actually not so near) it's worth driving over to catch some too.

The Bangsar South area.

No pics of the BKT. Here's us at Port Klang.

Sent Junyi back home (his family has relocated to KL), an hour drive back to KL and had to get ready for our flight back. And that marks the end of this trip.

Another meet up in January maybe?
