The City That Never Sleeps

This song pop out of the blue, second song that played when I randomized my entire playlist.

Perfect time of the year to re-listen this song, but it also brought back oh-so-many memories.

10 years since sec school graduation. Grad ceremony that year was pretty special for me - it was the culmination of all those glory years. I featured heavily in the ceremony - awards, grad speech, performance. People probably grew sick of seeing me on stage multiple times. Dad made a special trip to sit through the ceremony - because I complained that all these years, he had never seen me getting recognized for my achievements. Guessed it struck a chord, and I was really glad he made the trip.

Most special of all was the last segment of the ceremony had us singing the grad song, we put our arms around each other's shoulders and sang on top of our voices. A few of my friends burst into tears (really, not the silent tears flowing down cheeks kind, like really started bawling). All getting emotional.

*说好了这一次不掉眼泪~* someone starts crying.

"你不要哭啦!你做么哭?" then starts crying too.

We all more or less grew up together - the uniqueness of our school which houses kindergarten, primary school and secondary school within one premise with shared facilities being the reason. That is at least 11 years of our very young lives spent together. There were so many memories, good or bad. I am lucky I mostly have fond ones. We may have very different experiences and focus during our time there - mine were more academically based. But one thing in common is that at this point, we were saying goodbye to each other and those years, and venturing out into the unknown. It didn't immediately occur to me at that time but we may not meet each other again.

Those were the best years of my life. Relatively carefree days. Those problems which we had seem so laughable now compared to what life throws us now sometimes. Some friends who remain close to this day. If I had any regrets that would be not living life a bit more, but like I said, I had a very different view and priority back then.

We may not get those days back, nothing will ever really be the same, but it's really nice to reminisce over it once in a while.

Damn now I have this urge to fly back and walk those hallways and corridors again.

(This post is so messy. So many memories flooding back and it's so hard to organize my thoughts.)
