2XU Compression Run

One month later, suddenly remembered that I have not blogged about the one milestone of my life.
Joined a run!
Started out way back in January when Chris and MHEH (I suppose I can refer to them as one entity now hahah), fresh off their Stand Chart run in December, wanted to go for another run and tried to get me to join too. At that point I have been running regularly (weekly, not very frequent but still) for about 3-4 months so I figured I would give it a shot. Motivation to run more frequently and maybe drop some more kilos. But knowing my lousy stamina I opted for a 5km run rather than a 10km one.
Can't remember why they chose 2XU out of the many many available runs. Anyway Chris and MHEH all signed up for 10km including EH who was planning to walk half of it lol. Winnie came on board too and joined the 5km run. Run was to be on 29th March. Started increasing my training frequency gradually towards the date, was gaining some momentum even (though still not really close to finishing an entire 5km running) when....
LKY passed. And the funeral date was right smack on 29th March.
Poor 2XU damn unlucky la to be honest. Out of the many many runs, theirs had to be the one that was affected. Run got postponed, and it was not immediately known when the new race date would be.
Eventually it was announced that the new race date would be 2nd August, which is like in another 4 months?Lost all motivation to run ahahahah and training dropped to like once a fortnight oops.
It was only in early/mid July when the "shit just got real" feeling set in and I began training again in earnest. Actually ran thrice a week wootz dunno where all those energy came from. By race day I still can't finish the entire 5km during training sessions, but I figured that I will be motivated by all those people around me running. So set the modest target of finishing below 40minutes which I have been doing in trainings, and maybe below 35 if I can get motivated hahahah *glimmer of hope*
I dunno if the 10km ppl have been training. But I do know Winnie haven't and she was literally finding excuses not to go (cannot find my bib, cannot find my singlet etc lolol). She managed to find all those items and settled for going for a morning walk hahaha. Figured that since the cut off is 1 hour and should not have issues finishing a leisurely 5km walk within 1hour.
Half marathon starts at an ungodly 4.30am, 10km at 7.30am and 5km at 8.30am. Winnie and I cabbed and by the time we arrived, most of the half marathon ppl have completed their runs and we're leaving. Headed to the starting line (race routes also changed due to the postponement which clashes with NDP) against the flow of human traffic and eventually separated from Winnie (who made a trip to the ladies first and who wasn't planning to run anyway).
5km had the least number of participants, some serious ones who are out to get a medal knowing that competition probably less strong, bigger sized ones who probably like me also lack of stamina, some fit looking guys accompanying their girlfriends who probably didn't want to run longer distances, and of course those who are out for a scenic jog/walk. So after we flagged off, it didn't take too long to reach the starting line.
One thing I underestimated though was the weather. Was so used to running at night with cool breeze and this particular morning the sun beat down without mercy. Hot hot hot.
Only lasted half the distance before giving up on running fml. So much for motivation by other runners.
Intermittent running and walking cycles and at the very least, target of under 40minutes achieved! Only barely though :/
Met up with the three 10km runners, waited for Winnie to finish and headed off for breakfast. And that concludes the run hahahah.
Oh well baby steps. It's true that it's ridiculous to pay to run - especially the price tags for these runs - why pay when you can easily do so for free? For me it's mostly a form of motivation lol (pay already cannot lose must train). So not too keen on joining another one unless got friends join again.
Another key personal takeaway for me...had nothing to do with the running. Well maybe a little bit - wore the official race singlet and exposed my unevenly colored arms, which, is a lot better than the days when it was covered with psoriasis growths and scars and what not. A personal triumph for me - may not seem like it, but it shows how much improvement I have made since I began treatment some time ago :)
Went home the week after the run and hence training paused. And yet to continue coz after I came back to SG, 7th month is upon us and I had an excuse of not staying out too late at night lolol. Call it a break la. Anyway it seems like eating clean(er) is way more effective for weight losing at the moment so I may not even run as regularly as I did previously after the 7th month.
Shall see!
