My 24th
posted : Saturday, July 27, 2013
Honestly I wanted to do something special like one of those "23 things I did when I was 23" posts...but procrastination got the better of me oops. Plus I probably didn't do that many things anyway hahaha. But anyway, seeing all my colleagues taking turn to take leave on their birthdays gave me inspiration...kind of...though my undecisive nature left me applying for leave like a couple of days before my birthday (and I happily went on leave even though it wasn't approved yet lolol).
I never know what to do on my birthdays. I never like announcing out loud, like "hey it's my birthday this week come celebrate with me leh". I prefer to keep quiet about it (that way surprises, if any, would be more surprising AHAHAHAHA). This year was no different...first time I had this group of colleagues around me and I was half wondering if anybody will find out. Though I kind of gave it away coz I asked one of my colleagues out of curiosity what she did on her day off and she asked me back when is mine. Was handling some random case that blew up..so halfway stressing out over some slides when they pop up inside my cubicle at almost 5 or was it 530? With a cupcake lol coz everyone hadn't got over the massive cake we had earlier tat day (one of the big bosses' farewell cum bday celebration)...and they predictably got my TO to lead lor. Brief celebration where everybody stared at me eating the cupcake urgh. Awkward much and I am not someone who has lots of words. But subconsciously glad that it didn't passed by unnoticed. :) Stayed back late until 9+ to clear work coz I took leave the next day =.= but I guess it's still not too bad an idea la. My main agenda on my birthday - you will never guessed it - make passport AHAHAHAHAH. But guess what it failed. Slept in, then when I woke up thought I will double check the documents required online and that's when I found out that passport renewal counters only open in the morning and afternoon session are for collections only. Half wanted to just cab there so that I can sneak in before 12, but then...too much a hassle lah. So onwards to Part 2 which is actually just to walk around and get myself a birthday gift...hatched the idea couple of weeks back...duno where I got the inspiration from tho. But I thought....I can afford it...why not? I can always make it useful one may...so off I went to get it. And there was an PC Show promotion too. Though my undecisive nature almost got in the way coz I went to 3 different epiCentres before finally getting it. Was having trouble deciding between an ipad or ipad mini but settled on the regular ipad in the end. Easier to type on it ba. Salesgirl handed me a purple case at first....I hated the color and asked if there are any other colors available other than "pink" (and she corrected me without thinking too paiseh to the max :s). Tried asking for a different model and I even said I didn't mind paying extra just to get rid of that...in the end she went back to the store to "check stock" and got me a white one instead. Thought I would sell it online when I got back but eventually I used it coz I wanted to start using the ipad and carry it around and I dun wan to do it without the casing. Then I got used to it =.= Oh for the record, eventually found out that the casing was worth $90. And to think I was planning to sell it for $20.
Ta-da!
Part 3 was to have dinner with the two housemates! Decided on Holland Village earlier on, then I went slightly earlier to decide on the restaurant of my choice...settled for La Nonna's in the end...which isn't completely a new idea actually considering that I have eaten there before. Great dinner though, hadn't had one like this in a while.
Didn't go too crazy on the day which is always the way I prefer...down side this year was once again, wasn't with family on the day itself....maybe next year...
Moving on, there was the outing with the CVE kakis on Sunday, always love catching up with these people although we don't meet that often these days. And then there was the outing with the JC ppl the following Saturday..group has gradually dwindle to around 4-5 each outing, but never grew tired reminiscing about those days...both outings, as you might guess, wasn't initiated by me haha.
Then there is the bomb, the one that truly that this year's memorable.
Stel was on a business trip to Philippines the entire week and she said she would treat me to dinner somewhere good when she's back....looked at a couple of options but in the end she said she will consult her colleagues and keep me in the dark temporarily to erm make it a little bit more surprising. Then on Tuesday afternoon it was revealed that we will go to Cherry Garden at Mandarin Oriental...think partly coz I did mention I dun mind Chinese food for a change. Kind of suspected that something is not right when I find her alone on a round table set for 5?
5....sound familiar?
My best buddies came down to SG to surprise me!!! :)))) well ok not all 4, San couldn't make it (work commitments, hard to apply leave in her case). It kind of started coz KH happen to need to come to SG with his dad to meet their suppliers, and Val...specifically came down just for this wootz! And was a double celebration..happened to be KH's dad birthday too. Food was good, company was one of the best I could ask for! Turned out KH had been around for a couple of days already and was leaving the next day...so didn't get to spend too much time with him..Val came down on the day itself and was going to stay for two nights...though couldn't really entertain her much coz of work but she manage to go around to visit her friends and so on.
Gotta love these people..just smiling as I typed those out. :)
So that ended a pretty eventful 24th...have been a good one really.
