Day 6: 永和豆浆大王、好乐迪KTV、五分埔购物商圈、台北101、乐乐炭火烧肉
Weather still wasnt great but cleared up a bit already..at least we didnt wake up to rain. Somehow in Taipei sleeping in became the norm..so while waiting for the gals to get ready I went down to 阿宗 first with KH...what's the occasion for eating 面线? Chinese birthday! Hiak hiak. Not the traditional ones made by my mum but these will suffice lah.

B'day mee suah!

Metro-ed to 忠孝新生 for breakfast....many many breakfast shops in Taipei and they basically sell almost the same thing..this one seemed pretty famous coz came across it in many travel blogs..so included it in our itinerary. Unfortunately the directions we got werent very complete (either that or we comprehension skills are lousy)..and google maps didnt help much...so got a bit lost after exiting the station. :S Walked around blindly a bit then finally found the place. Given that it's past 10am (and hence way past the breakfast hours) only one other table is occupied...so that is definitely a positive. Food-wise, other than the typical soya milk..we tried something called 咸豆浆...which turned out looking a bit like steamed egg that has been tampered with, and tasting not so great. Hmm ok actually there are mixed reviews, about this, some of us (forgot who alr hahah) tot it was ok. Remember that I liked their youtiao also. XLB was so-so.

Finally spotted the sign after a while

The menu...pretty cheap, really.

Standard items - 豆浆油条

咸豆浆. Dun reli like it...

XLBs!! Not reli juicy though.

Back to the metro station and took to 后山埤 station..this time google maps did gave an accurate guide to our next destination..五分埔 shopping district! Though we did thought we end up at the wrong place...because it was completely deserted. First thought that crept to our minds were...after-effect of last night's typhoon and shopkeepers decided to take another day off (because it reminded us of 饶河 last night). Asked a shopkeeper in one of the few shops that was open and found out shops usually open only after lunch. Heh research didnt pick up this point..fail.

Have a few hours to spare and there doesn't look like there is anything we can do in the area..schedule for the day is pretty fixed already too. Very spontaneously decided to go sing K instead..and searched online for one in our vicinity...and found one! Checked out the price, decided to just get one room for 2 hours + buffet lunch. A bit tight and not necessarily cheaper than Sg and definitely way exp that KL..but to 过瘾 mah. Still had a good time...buffet lunch was forgettable but oh well.

Even the streets look deserted.

Off to sing K then! Le me in action.

Hunting for more songs from the songbook.

Some of the buffet lunch items we took. Take turns going out to the buffet spread outside to collect food.

Cozy!

The KTV.

Was drizzling by the time we came out...and head back to 五分埔, by this time most of the shops are opened already and the crowd had arrived too..split up to shop and agreeing to meet back in an hour...but area was just way too big! Reminds me of Pratunam area in Bangkok but this one seemed a lot bigger..should have known and allocated more time/days for this area. As it turns out, gals decided to stay on and continue shopping, I was hell bent on going to Taipei 101 (even though weather sucks), KH was supposed to go there to meet his friend too. So split up again..KH and I headed over to Taipei 101, where he met his friend for tea and I went up to the observatory deck myself. At this point we were kind of working on a tight schedule coz set a dinner date with KH's uncle that night already too. So worked out that I had like a little more than an hour for the trip?

五分埔...wet. But still rather popular. The girls had the biggest 收获.

While on our way to 101...eslite! Was supposed to visit..but next time ba.

Saw it!! But in the end forgot to take pic underneath it. Rainy and was rushing.

Tickets were on the pricey end...NT$400 after Youth Card discount. Tot I was lucky coz there wasnt a queue to buy tickets...turned out there was one waiting to get into the escalator. Thankfully cleared that pretty fast too. Outdoor observatory deck was closed as well due to the weather (at which point I made a silent note to myself...that some day I will return to Taipei and conquer that part). Indoor observatory wasnt fantastic as well due to the weather...can't really see much. So much of the time was spent reading the awesome facts and very geekily looking up at the CE related ones (footing depth and columns etc lol). And then there was the damper too. The sole annoying part (which I suppose happen to every other tourist attraction too) is the number of 陆客s. Total damage for this particular trip including souvenirs was almost NT$1000. Heh but worth it la.

Atas shops inside 101.

World's fastest elevator!

Cloudy..can't see much.

The geeky CE facts.

Baby damper! Honestly...very cute meh?

Mama damper. The one that actually works.

Souvenirs!

Rushed back to our room to drop off shopping goodies and freshen up...then head out for dinner! Which was awesome by the way if you were carnivorous like me. Meat meat and more meat yumz. Yeala agree la it's sinful but whatever. We did not go to Taipei to lose weight mah. We ended up around half an hour late but KH's uncle was okay...coz was waiting for his aunt also who was returning from a business trip to the South.

BBQ shop...quite a number of popular ones in Taipei, according to KH's uncle.

Meat.

More meat.

Omnomnom.

Find this really interesting. Suaku duno how to do so we destroyed a couple of pieces and KH's aunt was kind of annoyed (sort of like we destroyed an artpiece or sth). In the end got the waiter to do it for us.

From a solid looking tasteless piece of "thing" (still dun really know what is it), after prolonged heating it "melted"

End product - muachee? Was awesome!

Back to Ximending relatively early..around 10 ish? But we were aimlessly walking around looking for a bar f sorts. Didn't manage to find one that didnt look rowdy/dubious...so decided to go back to our room. Then found out that the McNair ppl were in Taipei as well! Last minute detour because the typhoon forced them to cancel their trip to 清境..so they had to go to Hualien via Taipei, got accommodation last minute too via CL and gang who are in Taipei too at that point. Was around 10-15min walk from our place so spontaneously decided to meet up with them too! Mini-reunion where we shared our stories :) Interesting to find out their accommodation style is similar to ours except with even more layers of security lol.

End of the day!
