Day 7: 金峰鲁肉饭、南门市场、淡水老街、士林夜市
Slept in again...and while waiting for the girls to get ready..went downstairs to explore XMD on my own...considering that we didn't really go jalan jalan in XMD before. Weather has more or less cleared up..fine day to start! Met up with the rest after an hour or so and made our way to the photo studio..our Groupon package entitles us to 12 pictures and one with a frame..so we were supposed to look through the photos and pick the ones we want. Staff kept pestering us to buy more..and those photos are not exactly cheap. KH was in the opinion that they are already pretty cheap for a studio quality photos so he bought more...the rest of us settled for what we are entitled. Photos won't be ready before we leave Taiwan so in the end we got one of KH's friends in Taipei to collect for us when it's ready.
Fine start to the day!
Dio Wedding Studio...think online reviews weren't very good. But we didnt have much issues with them. Somewhat pushy but gave in because they thought they can't squeeze much out of students on grad trip. Hahah.
金峰, within the vicinity of CKS Memorial Hall.
鲁肉饭 from the restaurant. Thought it was pretty good.
干面, which wasnt very dry. But imagine 鲁肉饭 and replace rice with noodles. Quite good too.
Our super late brunch.
Eve of 端午节, so we bought bazhang from a roadside stall...got cheated coz the meat portion was almost negligible...
鲜芋仙! Original one in Taiwan, just as good. Wonder when they will attack SG market.
Ventured into a market-ish place. Mangoes, cheap and absolutely yummy! Bought like two packs of them.
Then the rain came. :( Wanted to go 淡水 for sunset...stuck to the plan in the end. Thought it was the right choice coz on our way there..the rain stopped...and the sun came out! Happiness! 淡水 station was rather far, almost at the end of the metro line..went straight to the old street! Kind of like this street too..like the food!
春雨里洗过的太阳?
Clear weather ahead?
Got a crowd.
First stall we patronize. Actually there is a branch outside our minsu but we never buy before.
Yay icecream! Two flavours, think it was mango and green tea.
Assorted fried mushroom, a tad too salty but really good!!
Everything is long....
Fried prawns..looked a bit kiddish with the rainbow rice.
Gaga?
Metro-ed to 剑潭 station...which is nearer to the 士林夜市 than 士林 station..and let the feast begin! Last night in Taipei, what better place to end with? Though timing wise a bit bad coz just had another makan feast earlier at 淡水 heheh. Found our way to the indoor food stalls...apparently rather new..previously all the stalls were outdoors. Met up with KH's cousin (lol the guy really had quite a number of people to meet in Taipei). Didnt get to really explore the other stalls (clothes etc) as we only reach Shilin at around 8pm...by the time we finish makan was almost 10pm? Hung around a while before heading back...
First stop immediately after the underpass from metro station - 牛舌饼. Bought both peanut and 麦芽糖 flavour.
Fried milk cubes. Pretty strange idea but taste ok.
This one has a strange name. "Frog laying eggs". Essentially its BBT la..just that the pearls are slightly different.
Sausage..thick and long. Thought we were getting the whole thing but nah, they chopped up one section for us.
Another variation. Mini-sausage.
Finally made it to the entrance! I think this is the entrance. It's so big, there are probably other entry points.
B1 Food Hall. Crowded....
Grilled scallop. Remember it was a bit spicy, not sure why.
Chicken chop, first breaded and fried, then grilled. Not sure why. But taste good though.
Om nom nom.
Generous portion of mango shaved ice!! NT$110, worth it gua?
Randomly chose a slightly emptier stall with seats so that we can sit down and talk (and eat food from other stalls too). This is a 广东粥 stall. Didnt try this but girls thought it wasnt nice..
Cheese pork chops, from the neighbouring stall, owners were pretty chatty and friendly. Actually came over to chit chat with us.
Some of the stalls outside, should be a very small section of Shilin.
There were game stalls too, this is a fishing game.
豪大大鸡排! But tried this in Ruifang already so didnt try to queue again.
Initially one of our agendas is to visit clubs..ended up didnt have time to do it throughout our 4 nights in Taipei..so just grabbed some drinks from 7-11 and have our own HTHT session in our room :S. Turned out rather memorable...cleared the air. After effects - overslept. Woken up by minsu owner's SMS at around 10am and very hurriedly packed up and waited for her to come. KH had earlier left to meet another friend of his (lol). Settled payment issues with the minsu and lugged all our luggage to Taipei Main Station. Closing comments for Taipei? Pretty irrelevant question because how can anybody visit Taiwan without stopping by Taipei? Haha. Next stop: Taichung!
Leaving on a train....
