The City That Never Sleeps

Grad Trip: 九份温莎堡观景民宿!

Accommodation in Jiufen comes under me...first heard about it when Chris and gang were doing their planning, they showed me the website and I was like, wow. It looked really good, and views from the room are breathtaking...so that part of their publicity effort works I guess. Did some research online and there didn't seem to be any bad reviews. Price was more expensive than accommodation in other places, which was explained to be because of Jiufen's tourist appeal...and there didn't seem to be any other much cheaper yet still decent alternatives. So went ahead with the booking...though the girls needed a bit of convincing haha. Ended up labeling this as our "atas" accommodation in Taiwan during which we will relax and enjoy in the room more...instead of exploring the outside world haha.

There are quite a number of rooms on offer. Essentially 3 main types of rooms, 涵馆,日光涵馆 and 香草庭院....日光涵馆 is the one with breathtaking scenery, all 7 rooms that come under this group. We later find out all 7 rooms are housed in the same building, on different floors. Each room is uniquely decorated and  can accommodate different numbers of people. We initially asked for 日光涵馆1, but was told that the maximum it can take is 4 people and we should take 日光涵馆7 instead which can fit 8 people, 4 double beds but we will be allowed to use 3 beds and price quoted will still be for 5 pax instead of 6 pax. Sounds fair enough so we took it. I suppose tourists from HK/Macau and SG are their main customers so they have bank accounts in these countries for bank transfer..and payment via Paypal as well so it's actually kind of convenient.

Yep, so the day we arrived..first impression after entering the room wasn't great. Apparently the previous customer either just left/they haven't clean it up since the previous customer left so we were greeted by the cleaning aunty first up. And somehow the flooring continuously gives an impression that it's not clean..and a couple of cockroaches made a special appearance =.=. And somehow it feels smaller than I pictured, although view is still great, amenities are more than adequate (the body shampoo heehee) and balcony...um we didnt hang out there in the end coz yea, it doesn't look that enticing, like not very well maintained de.

Le balcony. Cup was there for er, artistic purposes.

View from room/balcony

Bathroom =.= Thank god for the curtains, even tho they say still can see silhouette hahahaha.

Pic from the attic!

花茶 available...lol

Dining area

Towels and toothbrush sets provided too.

Breakfast was also provided..they called it 欧式有氧早餐...haha no choices, everybody gets the same set. Which is not bad actually, like the mashed sweet potato thingy. And I suppose if we weren't planning to go anywhere else that morning..the cafe would have been a pretty nice place to hang out. Like everywhere else in Jiufen...the view is breathtaking (for the lack of a better word hahaha).

Cocoa or milk tea for drinks.

Sandwich + some fruits + mashed sweet potato

Pretty relaxing place for breakfast/tea

The view from the cafe.

Total damage is NT$5400 in the end, for one night, and comes up to more than 200SGD per night, so its even comparable to SG standards already :S. Oh well. Staying overnight in Jiufen, probably not actually needed if you don't have that many places to visit, or if you are coming from Taipei for a day trip, because Jiufen itself doesnt have that many things to do. But overall, guess we can say we are pretty satisfied even though expectations are not reli met...it has more to do with the memories there! :)
