The City That Never Sleeps

Grad Trip: 花莲阿姐民宿!

posted : Thursday, August 02, 2012
So this entry is about our accommodation in Hualien!

Anyway a little background, while planning Val was supposed to be in charge of Hualien accom+attractions, Stel the same for Taichung, San and I taking Taipei+Jiufen and KH taking...KL? Hahaha. So yep. Val and San (who were staying together that time) researched and proposed a few...ultimately they decided to book this one in the end, owing to the nice reviews of the place by a Malaysian blogger.

阿姐民宿 is around 5-10 minutes drive from Hualien Train Station. Public transport is minimal in Hualien so don't bother trying to get there yourself...at least cab. But then again, the owners will most likely offer to pick you up so yep. Anyway..like I said earlier, we reached Hualien late, like around 11.45pm at night...but the owners never hesitated..stayed up late to pick us up!  (Y) Kind of dark at night so couldnt see how the house was like from outside...just know that it's a three storey terrace house, I think the owners and their kids take two rooms on the second floor and the rest of the rooms are for guests.

So we booked their 山蓝四人套房...with an additional bed. And on entering the room...all went "woah"...because it's rather spacious. And it comes with an attic! Hmm room has a Doraemon theme, so lots of Doraemon plush toys and small deco and a huge Doraemon painted on one of the walls (which looks a bit off but nevermind). A bit kiddish I guess but its still very homey. I guess modern feel etc belong more to hotels. And after a long day of travelling all of us are really glad to see beds, which are really just mattresses on the floor without bed frames but the mattresses are oh-so-comfy!! And there is also the TV, attached bathroom etc. Picture time, after owners left us and before we even settle in properly!
La chambre. We drew lots to decide who sleeps where.

The Doraemon on the wall..slightly off.

Bathroom, with towels provided.

The attic!

Doraemon clock.

Doraemon plush toys!

Awesome scenery outside...couldnt see anything the night before! Pleasant surprise!

As for meals, breakfast (tapao-ed from breakfast shops) is provided. We came really late for the first night so 阿姐 can't pre-order breakfast for us, so she went out and bought us paos from this famous shop (which we included in our itinerary - wanted to try) called 公正街包子. Then the other two days from breakfast shops. And another service she provided is to arrange for cab driver for us! Planned to go Taroko Gorge on the first day and she asked Val before our trip...then made the arrangements! Which makes things really convenient for us for the first two days, I think we are kind of spoilt by that heheh.

Breakfast, Day 1 - 公正街包子

The living room downstairs, full of the owner's kids' stuff, travel magazines, brochures, maps etc.

Typical drinks we order for breakfast

Some of the breakfast items we order across the two other days!

KH's fav 三文治总汇

A bit unhealthy for breakfast, but I always wanted to try that. 棺材板.

With 阿姐and 大哥! Wanted to polaroid it and gave them a copy but polaroid ran out of battery =.=

Didnt get to interact with them much, but I think they trust their guests a lot. We were given keys to the house, and they continue to live their life - go out, work etc, and if this is in *insert country with infamous crime rates* they would probably come back to an empty house already. But I guess it's the culture there la, which I find it kind of heartwarming for a reason.

Okay I kind of forgot the damage to our wallet alr, but if I am not wrong its about NT$7000+ for three nights of stay + breakfast. That comes up to about $20 per night per person and I think that is really affordable and worth the money! (I duno, I may have been affected by the sky high hotel room rates in SG). Yep recommended! *chop*
