The City That Never Sleeps

Another new beginning

I didnt imagine that I would begin my new hostel life by doing some intensive cleaning today...

Damn the previous owner of my room.

Anyway, I arrived in Singapore at around 2.15pm. There was a girl from Brunei, who was a friend of my friend, who is doing Pharmacy (? not very sure) in NUS AND staying in Raffles Hall as well..on the same flight as me but she was with her family so I didnt go up to say Hi...but will get to meet her soon I guess. Took a taxi to RH..and waited at the main entrance for Ryan to come and help me carry my luggage. I guessed one of the seniors there who are supposed to welcome freshers saw me and came up to help. Coincidentally he was a Malaysian as well, and while filling up some forms Ryan and the rest turned up. I was allotted a single room (=P) in Block 5.

Upon entering the room..well, first impression as quoted by Billy:

"Like a toilet!"

Explanation: Walls are tiled (unlike other rooms) and there is a pipe leading to the ceiling (or from the ceiling) at one corner of the room. (And you can really hear water flowing sometimes).

The room has a L-shaped table, with bookshelves and a small notice board, a much-bigger-than-McNair's cupboard and for single rooms, some more shelves next to the cupboard, a single bed, towel racks and so on. And it is somewhat incredibly dirty. The idiot previous owner (duno which one) stuck posters using some sort of permanent tape that leaves ugly "scars" behind on the tiled wall. Not much rubbish, just some blue tack here and there on the wall that needed to be removed.

(Note to myself: I must buy some big posters or calendars to cover up the ugly "scars" but I will be considerate enough to not use such permanent cellophane tapes)

After doing some quick checking of the room..went out with Ryan, Billy, Sam, Ei Hong and Jess..and a senior who tagged along and was a bit, erm, enthu? Haha..others seemed to find him slightly irritating because he followed everywhere and we finally managed to shake him off when we decided to go shopping at Giant VivoCity...but manage to drop by Kent Ridge Hall before that since Billy needed to settle some fees.

One of the blocks in Kent Ridge Hall. Didnt had a chance to visit the rooms yet, all single rooms but each room has its own balcony. Envious~~~

So we went on a shopping trip at Giant. Bought a lot of stuff like pillows, hangers etc. In the end, 6 of us dragged a mountain of shopping bags and pillows and clothes racks and shoe racks to dinner at PastaMania Harbour Front and occupied 12 seats in total. Lol...waiters and waitresses were staring at us as we took our seats.
Guess we are going to have to learn more about possible shortcuts within NUS campus as we walked a long way back to the hall from the nearest bus stop. Then, began the process of intensive cleaning of my room. The public toilet is just few doors from my room so I had to run up and down to wash the piece of cleaning cloth until I gave up and borrowed a pail from Jess.

Slowly and steadily, the room was cleared of its dust (ooh, I wished I had a vacuum cleaner), the floor swept and mopped twice, attempted to scrub the tiled wall and I decide to call it a day..since it is in a much more liveable condition. The bad thing is, I haven't started unpacking at all. Nah, too tired and lazy.

Haven't had a chance to explore the hostel yet either. Cleaning is top priority. =P But heard that the main difference between Uni halls and JC hostels is that there is absolutely no curfew. Guys and girls can enter each other's room too provided that the room door is wide open.

Can't get a wireless network here, but luckily I brought along a LAN wire so I am able to come online..speed is quite fast too. But what will happen when other people started moving in, I am unable to tell.

Stage 2 of settling in will begin tomorrow: Unpacking! And try to clean the room some more. Duno, just dun feel good when the room is not completely clean yet. And more shopping to be done, hopefully tomorrow...and collection of SGC from SAJC.

Btw, sorry Nayan, pictures not up yet..=p I will only take pictures when it is cleaner =p so be patient yea...
