The City That Never Sleeps

(no title)

Well..I simply have no idea on what title to put for this entry, mainly because it is rather rojak, as in, i just put in whateva i thought of, summarizing what happened around me last week. I find it rather appropriate to blog once per week, as in the frequency is just nice, and another thing is that i dun think i have spare time to blog during weekdays.

I guess I am still slacking...well, I think I should really learn to be more self disciplined. With the computer on in front of me, i simply cant resist touching it, going online even if I dun have any particular websites to visit, downloading songs and so on. In one way the repaired wireless connection in the hostel is a bad thing: it causes me to 荒废学业. U may say, "not that serious rite?", but in actual fact yes, it is rather serious. I left my homework undone, when I am suppose to finish my homework. My time will not be so packed if I didnt switch on my computer that often. I will always tell myself, I want to listen to songs, I will only listen to songs when I switched on my computer, but once it is on, well, the damage is done.

Well the highlight of this week is of course the release of GCE 'O' Level, 'AS' Level and 'A' Level results. Congratulations to all my friends who did well for their exams! Well, for those who didnt do as well, Hmm, I dont know how the system works, maybe u can either retake the subject in June or maybe ur 'A2' or wateva u call it will help to pull ur overall grade up? Well can someone explain to me how the system works? On the other hand 'O' Level results are also out, looking at my juniors' results, well nobody scored straight As, but overall I think their results are quite similar to ours. And their paper was easier! Especially Chinese, which with the new format, is reasonably easier than ours, which is why their Chinese results improve a lot. Top scorer, Chung Sun, broke our school's record by scoring 10As and 1B, missing the supposedly national record of 11As by a B in Chinese. I guess he could have kicked himself, he got an 'A' for a more difficult BM but actually got B in Chinese, HIS MOTHER TONGUE, which he is not bad at (the speaking part, at least). But look, this year they are allowed to take Commercial Studies alongside with POA, which resulting in a number of them taking 10 subjects. I somewhat felt a bit jealous because if I were taking 'O'Level I would have gone for it also. Why? Because I would still be in Brunei, the very hardworking me would definitely gone for it I guess.

Actually the same case applies for 'A' Levels. This year, my juniors were allowed to take 4 H2 subjects alongside with a H1 subject, GP, PW and Mother tongue. If Icame to Singapore this year, I would have taken H2 Biology as well initially, AND I am sure I would have dropped it midway. The workload of 3H2 subjects is already difficult to manage for me, and in Singapore you are treated as a juggler: you have to juggle so many things at the same time, homework, CCAs and so on. I am actually relieved that I am not taking 4 H2 subjects now.

Meanwhile I simply have to mention my first experience in a university-standard laboratory. Last Wednesday I went to NUS for my first practical session. And the lab there, well, from exterior, nothing special, but there are a lot of equipments which I neither heard of nor seen before. One example, which I find cool, is an auto-burette, which look like a normal burette but the top part is attached to a reservoir of the solution to be filled. You dont have to stand on the tip of your toes pouring the solution in like what we did for a normal burette, but u simply pump the solution in form the rservoir. That is not the coolest part. The coolest part is that once u fill it more that the zero marking, u stop pumping, and it will automatically adjust itself to the zero marking! Cool! But anyway my first experiment was a boring one, we just have to sit there and take readings from a certain machine called a spectrophotometer every 5 minutes for 75 minutes. So my partner and I just sat there and stoned. But the report was tough though, and have to be taken seriously as it constitutes 20% of the final grade.

Forgot to mention, that morning we went to East Coast Park for Cross Country. 3.6 km run. Well, needless to say,my results are disastrous. After the run the hostel committee held an outing for the scholars in the hostel there so they spent the whole afternoon there playing games and BBQ until 8 or 9 pm. I wished I could have joined, but due to the practical which is 6-9 pm so I couldnt. Hope there is a chance next time.

This week I have also been busy with my application for deferrment of my Khidmat Negara, making my way to the Malaysian High Commission twice but in the end got nothing done. First time I went there, I went to the wrong place, the old address. Second time, I finally found the correct place but they told me I have to send in my form directly to the Jabatan..Grrr....waste my time.

I think the last post I said I will talk more about a subject in this post, but sorry la, I couldnt remember what I want to say liao, no 灵感 liao, so I think I stop here for the week. =)
