The City That Never Sleeps

A new year

Firstly, a very Happy New Year to everybody! I havent been in the mood to blog for the past month, mainly because I dont have much to say, nothing much worth mentioning. But now lessons have begun once again and I have more to say, or rather, I have to share my feelings with somebody.
On New Year Eve, we went to Marina Bay for the countdown party there. We had actually tried to bring our juniors out, like what our seniors did last year, but in the end we were not allowed to. I still remember last year we went all the way there for the party but in the end rushed back to the hostel before 12am. This year, I almost thought the same thing will happen when it rained around 9.30pm. In the end, fortunately, the rain stopped and we were able to watch the fireworks. Going back to the hostel after that was a tough task though, due to the heavy human traffic.
The rest of the holidays were actually spent on holiday homeworks...Sigh. I promised myself to enjoy the rest of 2006 and try to be more hardworking in 2007 but in the end I didnt really do it. Well..I simply cant get myself to do it, maybe I am reli those type of 没有恒心的人. Well, another hope pf mine is to get straight As in A Levels..though I know it is not a very realistic wish, my GP is terrible. Physics, maybe with extra work miracles will happen?
Next up, 3rd January, school reopens. Well, looking at all the new faces around, I suddenly have this sense of responsibility within me. I am now a senior to all the JC1s in the school! Which is quite strange, because I never have this kind of feeling before, though I have been a senior to a lot of people in the past. I now have this weird act of comparing my juniors with us the senior batch. And from what I noticed, the juniors, who are almost half our number (I am referring to the junior scholars), are mostly the studious type. I hate to say it, but one of them even fits “Uncle’s” description of a 书呆子..well, his size is a bit big la…get wat I mean? Haha..they have actually started borrowing notes and books to read before school even start! That is a bit, err, scary? Kiasu?
On the other hand, first day back of school saw us seniors starting lessons almost immediately after assembly. One significant change in our timetable is that there is no more PW!! Haha..actually, the more significant one is that there are no more Physics lectures, but Physics will all be like secondary school, teachers teach in class. There are also more GP Classes, which is one big change for us. We no longer have GP as a class, but are split up according to our abilities into three programmes, the differentiated programme (for the better ones), the main stream programme, and the remedial programme. And I was in the main stream.
The rest of the 1st week, I get to skip classes! I went for AVA duty for the JC1s Orientation. As we watched them, I couldn’t help but remembering my experiences last year, and realizing how fast time flies. In no time, JC will be over, university will be over, got into work, marry, have children, retire, have grandchildren, sit down doing nothing, finally die. Haha..I am thinking too much oledi.
But anyway, another thing which I forgot to mention. During holidays, I got an email which surprised me. Remember I applied for H3 Chemistry (NUS Module) last year? I actually got it! In the beginning stages I was actually debating whether I should take it, give up and try for the MOE module which is on pharmaceutical chem, or give up totally. In the end I signed up for it, since the greatest advantage is that it is easier and exam is in april, so I can focus on my other subjects during A Levels, whereas MOE Modules will be having exams during A Level period. However, the main disadvantage is that I have to go to NUS three times a week, and it is around one hour from the hostel! But in the end I still took it anyway. Its quite a chance, considering that around 70+ students were chosen from the whole Singapore. So…=)
Currently I am rather busy with homework, tests (yes, TESTS) and H3 lectures. So I will be onlining less often, and blogs would be updated less often. Hope u all understand…Haha..Hope to see everybody soon!
