The City That Never Sleeps

Heartbreaking loss

(I know this may be boring to some, but still I felt that it was necessary to express my feelings...just bear with me for a moment)
Malaysia lost in Thomas Cup to rivals Denmark yesterday, 2-3. But it was a close match and they could have won by 3-0.
First match was Lee Chong Wei vs Peter Gade...Surprisingly, Lee, who was in a good form, lost in straight sets, but very close...17-21, 19-21
Then the first doubles, Koo/Chan defeated Eriksen/Lungaard Hansen...First set they win 21-17. But 2nd set was a very close one...finally it ended 30-28, in favour of the Danish. And my Malaysian friends and I was like.."WHAT??"...But finally they won the third 21-6. 1-1.
Then the second singles. Muhd Hafiz won the first against Kenneth Jonassen...22-20..and could have gone on to win the second (IF he did, Malaysia would have won). But he crumbled in the 2nd set, 21-12, and lost the third 21-17.
The second doubles was more exciting. Choong/Lee were veterans but they played well against Boe/Mogensen. In the middle of the third set one of the Danish got a yellow card, then a red card, which gave the Malaysians a free point (but I dunno what those cards were for). The Malaysians then went on to win 21-13, 15-21, 21-19. 2-2!
We all expected the third singles, Kuan Beng Hong to deliver the winnig point as he was supposedly much better than his opponent Joachim Persson who was unknown to us. He played well in the first few shots, but then suddenly lost his momentum and went on to lose the set 21-12. In the second set he was trailing 13-18 and most of us were feeling dejected when he made a comeback to lead 19-18. All of a sudden there was hope..but was extinguished in barely two minutes as he lost the next three points. Final score, 21-12, 21-19, and Denmark finally won 3-2, to face China in the finals.
It was so close...Malaysia almost made it to the finals..but I guessed it was just fate...Wong Choong Hann's injury in the quarterfinals could be signalling Malaysia's fate this year..I guessed maybe Malaysia had to wait for another two years then...
